Government scrappage scheme for old boilers

Chancellor Alistair Darling has announced a scrappage scheme for boilers whereby householders will be able to trade in their old boilers for more efficient models.

Householders in England will be able to claim up to £400 if they replace an inefficient boiler – rated Band G or worse – with an energy-efficient condensing boiler or with an alternative renewable energy system.

Not only would this curb greenhouse gas emissions but, by upgrading to an A-rated boiler, a household could save up to £310 a year in bills.
