A warmer welcome at the Made-For-Ever Church
Built in 1896, the Made-For-Ever Methodist Church at Anchor Road in Kingswood has seen many changes in its time, both socially and in terms of the building’s structure.
Believed to have taken its name from a local coal mine – sometime between 1780 and 1800, a group of miners struck a particularly rich seam and exclaimed “we are made forever with this one” – the church has its roots in small house meetings attended, amongst others, by the colliers. Today, it is part of the Kingswood circuit, sharing preachers with other churches in the area.
Small and simply furnished, the building is supported by a group of enthusiastic Church Officers who recently decided that the time had come to do something about the antiquated gas fire heating that was both inefficient and expensive to run.
After comparing quotations from three central heating companies, Gregor Heating and Renewable Energy was commissioned to install a full central heating system based on a Worcester Bosch Greenstar Condensing Boiler.
Mr Alan Britton, Steward and Treasurer of the Church, is very pleased with the installation. He said “Gregor Heating were careful to avoid further damage to the fabric of the building. All pipe-work was fed through existing channels, new wooden panels covered pipes that could not be hidden and the quality of the work overall was excellent”. He added “and our ladies are delighted to now have hot water on tap!”
And, he now has another reason to be pleased. After the work had been completed, Worcester Bosch and Gregor Heating decided to make a gesture of support to the church. At a presentation in the Gregor Energy Centre showroom, Managing Director Steve Gregor and Worcester Bosch Specification Manager, Dave Gould, presented the Reverend Gordon James, a member of the church, with a cheque as a contribution towards the cost of essential repairs to the church roof.
Always ready to greet new members, the welcome from the Made-For-Ever Church will be even warmer now.
