Here at Gregor heating we are all about supporting community initiatives towards a greener and more sustainable future with energy supply. We are here to help when it comes to installing and maintaining systems that encourage families to make  changes to the way they use electricity to enable more renewable generation on to the grid.  We are really excited about Bath & West Community Energy’s Flex community scheme and wanted to share this opportunity with our customers to learn more.

What is Flex Community?

It is a pilot project run by Bath & West Community Energy (BWCE) which are a community owned renewable energy company and Stemy Energy, who are developing smart digital technology that supports the greater use of renewable generation.

The pilot project involves installing an item of unintrusive smart technology to an Electric Car Charger, Heat Pump or Immersion Heater, which is connected to Stemy Energy’s platform via the internet which helps to make your green tech even greener. Stemy Energy’s platform will  remotely respond to signals from the local grid operator requesting participants to turn their energy technologies on or off depending upon whether there is plenty of renewable electricity on the grid or if demand is high and the grid is close to full capacity. As a customer you will still have complete control and can override requests from the grid at any time.

The Flex Community is looking for households who are willing to join the pilot and change their patterns of electricity use to make the most of when renewable energy is available on the local grid and to avoid peak times when demand is high and fossil fuels are used to power the grid. Responding to signals from the grid is known as ‘flexibility’ or being able to offer ‘flex services’. By engaging with this flex approach, households can earn a small amount of revenue via a flex payment and in turn support BWCE and Stemy Energy to test the most effective ways of delivering a low carbon grid to your local community.

If you can answer yes to both questions below you might be eligible to join the Flex community with no additional capital investment.
